Glass, Wire, Organza and Tulle
This work is the result of a collaboration between fashion designer Caoimhe Grant and glass artist Clare Bowe. Inspired by Irish craft traditions and motifs, it draws on references to fishing nets, herringbone weaves and the beauty of textiles. These influences are translated through glass, layered fabric and intricate wire construction, balancing softness with structure and fragility with strength.
The intention was to highlight the inherent properties of the materials through an exploration of movement and light. Hand-knotted wire macramé and glass beads are combined with soft layers of organza and tulle, illuminating the wearer. Oversized bow motifs within the skirts are softened by a new transparency, bringing a sense of gentle ease. Elongated ties at the back of the top hold the wire macramé outer layer together, becoming a feature in themselves.
The wire and glass macramé forms a delicate protective armour; the fabric is the softness beneath.
